UOAlive Day 167: Emporium Tending

The plants at the Emporium are ready to harvest, so I spent this morning pulling and planting seeds.

While I was doing this, my inventory went through all sorts of weirdness with the weight. According to one accounting system, I was far too overweight to be alive. According to the other, I was lighter than a feather and should've been floating into the sky.

Luckily, it just seemed to be a weird client-side glitch and after a while the problem resolved itself.

I finished stocking up what I could into my plant vendors. I ended up settling on 100 gold pieces per plant because that seemed the best competitive price while still allowing me some chance to make profit. I would've loved to price these plants higher, but the vendor search is already inundated with price points at or around 100 gold pieces. I think if I ever want to hope to make a profit on the Emporium, I'm going to have to sell plant resources and plant dyes.

Day 165: Thanksgiving on UOAlive

Thanksgiving 2022 at the Community Rune Library

No long post today. I only logged in long enough to participate in the yearly UOAlive family picture. It was neat to meet and greet with so many of the members of the community that I've seen out and about on my various adventures!

UOAlive Day 162: Daily Rares

The admins restarted the server this morning in preparation for some Thanksgiving events and to add in a few things that have been requested by the community. One of those things are some old school VvV horses, assuming I'm correct in what I think these are. I don't participate much in PvP related activities.

I took this opportunity to try and find even more daily rares. Today was an incredibly fruitful day!

At about noon, the admins did another server restart to fix a few issues and make sure they would be set for the upcoming holiday weekend. I didn't mind, however I was in the middle of Underworld when the announcement was originally sent out and had to scramble to get to a safe log out spot!

After the restart, I managed to locate another daily rare. Unfortunately I think somebody else with a much more expansive knowledge of the daily rare locations was on the ball today and they cleared out a lot of the other rares before I could locate them.

Before I got off for the night, I checked our Greatly Worn runebook and located an IDOC. As it was late, I decided to let the house go and get some much needed sleep.

UOAlive Day 161: Inflation

A patch was put out today on UOAlive, so I used the server restart as an opportunity to try and find a few more daily rares.

Unfortunately, part of today's patch brought some increased prices for custom keep and castle plots. This is a tiny bit of a downer, as I've been casually building up my bank balance to assist my partner in acquiring their own castle. It looks like they'll have to settle for a smaller house!

I understand the admin's reasons for adjusting the prices. Castles and keeps are supposed to be big rewards that one puts a lot of time and effort towards, and a lot of people are instead using blank castle and keep plots as storage for their loot as opposed to building beautiful architecture to scatter across the lands. I'm not sure what my thoughts are on them not adjusting the price of the original classic keep and castle, but perhaps it was simply an oversight on their part.

UOAlive Day 154: The IDOC That Was Promised

The big plot east of Luna went IDOC today. I let Snow know and we immediately set to parking one of our accounts here to keep an eye on the house.

While I waited for the house to drop, I ran another humility hunt. This has become my go-to thing to do when I need to pay attention to a different screen but can spare a little bit of attention.

Once I had finished my humility hunt, I decided to try and assist in fighting off the Witch/Witch Hunter invasion in Skara Brae.

Unfortunately, my bard really struggles to survive here and anything I attempt to kill gets annihilated by somebody else before I get a chance to do any meaningful damage. I thought about bringing my tamer here instead, but really, I enjoy playing my bard. The realistic thing I'll end up doing is forgoing content that I find too difficult on my bard as opposed to building a different character to better handle the content I'm interested in.

Since the house still hadn't fallen and I knew the Fortress was reaching a breaking point in available storage, I decided to take a couple of hours to sort through the goods on the porch and my main castle.

While sorting through the new chests of IDOC loot, I came across another Toothless that caught my eye. I ended up grabbing him for my tamer.

I finished up what I was willing to do about five minutes before the Luna house fell, leaving a lot of space immediately available for Snow and I to dump all the IDOC goodies. Weirdly enough, she and I were the only IDOC attendees, so we had plenty of time to grab everything and dump it at the Fortress.

I don't fully know what we got yet, as we didn't feel like sorting the loot and concentrated on other things once we had all the loot secured.

UOAlive Day 153: Skara Witch Invasion

I've been enjoying seeing how populated Brit Bank is when I log on in the mornings. Recently, the admins performed a major hardware upgrade to the server. The difference is like night and day!

A smaller house in Trammel went IDOC today. I decided to spend most of my day babysitting this IDOC, as there were quite a few things I was interested in.

While I kept an eye on the IDOC, most of the server was preoccupied with the next step of the Witches vs Witch Hunter storyline the admins have been running for a while. Unfortunately, I've missed most of the story elements and haven't been able to participate due to my poor connection and play times lately. Tr1age has informed us that we will be able to get any special drops that come from this event on the event stones once the event concludes, however, so I'm not too concerned. I hope those who help progress the storyline enjoy their well earned goodies!

The house fell shortly after noon and I took that time to sort through our IDOC loot that has been piling up at the Fortress.

In one of the chests were a bunch of veteran crafting rewards. I'm super excited about these, as none of my accounts are old enough to claim my own version of these. I can already see myself using these in the castle!

I also found a chicken coop daily rare in the IDOC boxes, so I snagged that and moved my chicken statuette to a different corner of my castle and set up a little chicken area.

Shortly before I got off for the day, the admins sent out a message to let the players of UOAlive know there would be another admin-assisted event tomorrow.

UOAlive Day 146: Help! Guards! A Thief!

My scribe goods vendor has continued to sell well. I've been busy keeping the vendor stocked every morning.

I felt inspired after locating that cut hair stealable yesterday, so I finally got around to making myself a thief. It helped to have a bunch of alacrity and power scrolls from my many treasure hunting adventures.

While my stealing was training, I finally got around to stocking some of my plant vendors at the Emporium. I know I don't have every single plant, but I have enough to both stock and backstock a lot of my the first and second generation colors. Either way, I'll provide more options than what is currently available on Vendor Search.

I continued training my stealing until it passed 100, but after about 108 I began to grow bored and so I switched gears and started working on other skills. In the end I ended up with a competent mage with excellently sticky fingers, which is really all I need for most of the stealing I intend to do.

UOAlive Day 145: Bits 'n Bobs

I went trick or treating for a while to see if I could pick up any more Halloween decoration goodies in preparation for next year. Unfortunately, somebody else seemed to have the same idea and more often than not I was begging for treats from empty NPCs.

While out trick or treating, I located an interesting stealable. I don't have a thief yet, but knowing the locations of some of the UOAlive unique stealables will come in handy once I finally do.

Originally I had a rather unflattering series of complaints about a particular member of the server here, complete with pictures.

Ultimately I decided to keep my thoughts to myself. <_<

UOAlive Day 143: Naturalist Quest Woes

I'm nearly at enough Kudos to buy my first lot of 1000 Sovereigns at the new price. I don't know what I'll spend those Sovereigns on, but they'll make me feel nice to have when I need them!

I attempted to run the Naturalist quest, but got sidetracked by this annoying phase spider that had phased into one of the nests I needed to visit. These guys are hard enough when normal, but the paragon version left my bard running with her tail tucked between her legs at the mere thought of an altercation.

I ended up sending in my tamer's cu as bait so I could get my bard out in one piece. The cu died, but I made it out! LOL

I ended up running the quest in Fel instead to avoid the nightmare spider of death.

UOAlive Day 142: Maintenance Duties

I'm slowly finding the location for more and more daily rares. Maybe some day I'll be able to buy into the super secret underground daily rare spawn location market!

Today I had to do a couple of escort quests and kill some murderers for my virtue maintenance. I usually escort one of the Holy Grail guards, go kill between four and six murderers in Ocllo, then sit by the Britain taverns and finish escorting two more guards. It takes ten to fifteen minutes whenever I do it due to the cool down period between escorts.

I also ran another Humility hunt. Since I haven't had much luck or interest in participating in most of the other holiday events so far, I figure my time has been better suited towards my virtuous goals.

I also took some time to run a few treasure maps. My bank has been wanting for funds since I spent all my gold buying storage chests for all of my resources.

UOAlive Day 141: Decorating Refinements

This morning I decided to take my tamer's cu to Luna and see how it fares against the monthly Luna invasion mobs.

In short, not particularly well if there are a lot of mobs and you have a poor connection. LOL

I gave up on my Luna invasion attempts and turned my attention towards something a bit more achievable for me - decorating!

I took some time to during the night to ensure everything in the 'finished' areas were appropriately illuminated.

The same thing was started on the second floor.

I've experienced some issues with the bathroom in the upper right corner. Since some 'anti-exploit' (I use quotations, because I have no clue if it's true or not) measures were put in place on OSI, decorators have struggled with placing deeded add ons anywhere near doors or the front of their homes. This newfound frustration was implemented in the ServUO version, and as such my bathroom cannot have proper doors at that size or location if I still want to use a deeded bath tub add on. Phooey. I'll continue to experiment with that area and see what I want to do.

The two dyes of the month were changed recently, so I took some time to dye myself a couple of large stacks of cloth. I particularly like that purple hue, so I want a decent stock of it in case it comes in handy.

I also dyed 100 back up bolts of cloth the two colors and shoved them in my bank. I've been doing this since August so I have more color options available for myself for decorating and transmogs.

UOAlive Day 140: Treasure Taming

Today I decided to run a few higher level treasure maps and see if I could get the fabled dragon wolf to spawn. Snow has had her eye on one for a while, and we discovered that there were some discrepancies between ServUO treasure guardian code and OSI results. Snow reported the issue to the admins and they fixed it in a recent patch, making the wolves theoretically easier to find.

I ended up getting several to spawn across three chests. I managed to tame all of them, gave one to Snow, snagged one for myself, and threw the rest in the Fortress for the rest of the crew to grab.

I don't know how good these pets are, but tamers on the server have expressed interest in their potential. I'm interested to see what kinds of pet builds the players here will use.

The admins had a special log in reward, so I made sure to grab these before I got off for the night.
